Relationship strategies to keep the relationship going

Having a happy and fulfilling relationship doesn’t always happen by chance. There are plenty of relationship strategies that can make your relationship stronger and healthier.

A good relationship strategy will help build trust and commitment between yourself and your partner; you will both have a caring person to offer advice when things get tough, and you will also have a friend to share the good times with too.

You and your partner both need to be willing to put the effort in to make sure that the relationship remains a close, and that you are both keen on finding new strategies and ways to insure your relationship stays on the right track. Here are a few relationship strategies to get you started:

1. Make your relationship a priority. Top of the list of relationship strategies is making your relationship a priority. A strong relationship is one that is important to both people. Don’t ever let your relationship take second place to your job or your hobbies or anything else.

Spend time together, plan things together, do things together. Sometimes work or study can seem to get in the way of your relationship, but don’t let that happen! Make sure that no matter what else is going on in your life, you still make time for your relationship.

2. Appreciate what you have. Never ever take your relationship for granted. Be grateful that you are with such an amazing and wonderful person, and make sure that they have plenty of reason to be thankful too. A good relationship can be hard to find, and you should always be glad that the two of you are able to bring such happiness to each other’s lives.

3. Have positive and open communication. This is an incredibly important strategy for any healthy relationship. If a couple can talk openly and honestly with each other, then joy and love will flourish. If a boyfriend and girlfriend (or husband and wife) can talk together without feeling uncomfortable, then there is no limit to the fulfilment that they can have together.

Communication is the glue that helps a relationship stick together. As long as you can talk and listen to each other, you will be able to resolve any issues that arise.

4. Show that you care. Make sure your partner knows how much they mean to you. Let them know that their happiness is your happiness. If your partner is stressed or upset for any reason, spend time listening what if causing them hardship, and be willing to help in any way you can. Never let there be any doubt about how much you care for each other.

5. Play fair when you argue. It’s normal for disagreements to occur in any relationship. When they do occur however, it’s important not to fight just for the sake of fighting. Don’t get into the habit of fighting “just to prove who was right”, or “so they know who’s in charge”.

If there is an issue that needs to be discussed, then by all means discuss it, but don’t make it a competition that one of you will win and one of you will lose. Even if you feel hurt or upset, try not to say things that you don’t really mean. Remember: the objective should be to resolve the situation, not to “get them to admit they were wrong”.

Keep in mind what the problem is that you are actually trying to solve, and try to work together to try and fix it. If you can focus on finding a solution rather than causing confrontation, you should be able to keep fights to a minimum.

6. Be romantic. Being romantic is one of the most fun and exciting parts of a relationship, and it is a strategy that you should keep to the forefront. Never let the romance be forgotten in your relationship.

Make sure that you still surprise your boyfriend or girlfriend with affectionate notes, picnics in the park, nice dinners, flowers. . . Anything and everything that lets your partner know how wonderful you think they are, and how glad and thankful you are that you are together.

7. Forgive. Forgiveness is one aspect of any relationship strategy that is often overlooked. Accept that neither of you are flawless. There will always be mistakes made in any relationship or marriage. Sometimes your partner will do something wrong, sometimes you will, and sometimes you both will.

There is nothing wrong with that at all, as long as you are willing to forgive each other. Accept that we all occasionally do things that we regret, and be able to move on.

It’s not always easy to adhere to these relationship strategies, but the reward of a happy and successful relationship is that you will both be able to share in a fulfilling relationship.
